Heat Transfer Mask

yolö heat transfer mask is a polyester mask designed for lifting printable heat transfer films from their carrier and positioning them onto fabric. Perfect for contour cut text and more complex designs, the mask allows you to lift and position the entire design and eliminates the need to lift and reconstruct piece by piece. Heat transfer mask allows you to avoid distortion by keeping graphic elements relative to one another.

It is designed for use with opaque heat transfers which require the backing paper to be removed before pressing e.g. Laser 1 Opaque®, 3G Jet-Opaque® , Jet-Opaque® II & Glo-Jo®. Simply print and contour cut your image, weed away the unprinted areas and lay the mask over your entire design. The specially designed adhesive is sticky enough to lift the image from the backing paper but it will not leave a residue or effect the quality of your transfer. Position the image and mask onto the fabric, press according to your instructions and then peel away the heat transfer mask.

1. Print your image onto opaque transfer paper (following the instructions for the paper you are using)
2. Contour cut the image and weed away unprinted areas of the transfer
3. Remove the backing paper from the heat transfer mask
4. Lay the mask, sticky side down over the image using light pressure
5. Lift the mask away from the backing paper with the attached image elements
6. Position the image and mask on your substrate with the image facing upwards
7. Cover the image and mask with silicone parchment paper or a Teflon sheet
8. Use a hand iron or heat press to apply the printed image to your substrate
9. Leave to cool and peel away the heat transfer mask and silicone or Teflon sheet

yolö tips...

• Ensure the contour cutter cuts through the transfer paper only - light scoring of the backing paper may make it difficult to lift the design with the mask
• When removing the backing paper from the mask, peel with the grain of the backing paper - you may have to look very closely to see the grain
• After weeding your design, set the transfer paper near your heat press for a few seconds - this will make the image want to come away from the backing paper and will make it easier to lift
